small wheel on a big frame

Ok, I have read the faq, and I still have this question. I would like to
buy and unicycle and would like to ride around on it for distance, so the
26" wheel would be the way to go, but a smaller wheel would be the way to
go when learning. I do not have the funds to buy two, so would it be
possible to buy a larger wheel/frame combo and put a smaller wheel on it
while I am learning....
(putting on pretective gear and SCBA for flames sure to follow)
thanks and later
Andrew (uni wanna be)
